Machu Picchu is located in an ancient Incan fortress in the Andes Mountains of Peru. it dates back to 1450 AD. Most cities built by the Inca civilization were destroyed by Spanish conquest, luckily, Machu Picchu was hidden, invisible from below and not found, making it one of the most well-preserved Incan cities. It is made up of more than 150 buildings ranging from baths and houses to temples and sanctuaries.
At present, the fortress can be accessed by use of trains or hiking the famous Incan trail. Machu Picchu has over 100 separate flights of stairs, most carved from one slab of stone.
