Located in Huairou, China, the Great Wall of China was built over 2000 years ago in the 3rd century BC & was rebuilt in the 15th century. The purpose of the wall was to stop invaders from accessing the northern border. The wall is made up of 23 watch towers and over 13,000 miles across China. Originally, the length was 3,100 miles and took over 1 million laborers. The Great Wall is made of stone, brick, wood, amongst other materials starting in Shanhaiguan and ends into the sea.

The world’s longest defensive fortification is not just one wall but a system of walls built over 2000 years. The Great Wall of China is a powerful symbol of the unification of China under the rule of the Qin Dynasty. As of date, there are around 10 million visitors every year.

Dragon Dance

A form of traditional dance, every Chinese New Year ends with a dragon dance. The dragon represents wisdom, power and wealth. The dance is believed to scare away evil spirits and bad luck.

Terracotta warriors

Created by China’s first Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, construction began in 246 BC of his afterlife army who he believed would come to life in the afterlife. The impressive collection consists of more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots and 670 horses.

Kung Fu

Started in the ancient Xia Dynasty, from 2100 to 1600 BC, kung fu started as a military combat technique. This hand-to-hand combat to give soldiers an advantage. Practitioner must bow 45 degrees with hands positioned at chest. Right hand is in a fist and left hand is an open palm- which represents yin and yang. The open left hand is in line with the heart which represents one at peace with themselves.
